Where to start...

1 in 10 Women  and 1 in 12 Men in the USA suffer from Non Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity(1)

Coeliac disease is an Auto-Immune disease and is quite different to gluten intolerance or a wheat allergy. Although there are clinically proven blood tests for both coeliac disease and wheat allergy, it is difficult to diagnose gluten intolerance unless using a reliable test. It is only in very recent years that a greater number of  UK Doctors have acknowledged that there is such a condition as Gluten Sensitivity.

There are three forms of testing which Regenerus Labs provide related to Coeliac Disease or  Non Coeliac Gluen Sensitivity, commonly known as gluten sensitivity. Two of these investigate how your body may respond to contact with Gluten and demonstrate your level of intolerance, or may highlight response levels which lean towards early indentification /  risk of Coeliac Disease. The third  is a genetic test, which looks at the genes handed to you by your parents to identify if you are at a greater or lower risk of having Coeliac Disease.

We all probably carry a gene or two that predisposes us to an Immune System response, but that on its own doesn’t mean that we’ll develop a particular Auto Immune Disease, however if you have the gene and throw in other environmental triggers then you open the door to the mechanism, which can lead to the development of a disease.

The tests we provide can be purchased privatley but are not available under the NHS. If you have health insurance you should check with your provider as these tests may be claimable under your policy.

Auto Immunity is the failure of an organism to recognize its own constituent parts as self, which results in an immune response against its own cells and tissues. Any disease that results from such an aberrant immune response is termed as an Auto Immune Disease.

The UK National Health Service do provide a Blood Spot test for testing Coeliac Disease which is accurate, however this will only show if you actually have Coeliac Disease and not the more common form of Non Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity. If you have been tested by your GP and do not have Coeliac Disease then you may wish to consider looking at Gluten Sensitivity.

Which is right for you...

Advanced Gluten and Cross Reactivity Testing

From Phoenix Arizona, these tests are being widely used by Nutritional Therapists and growing bodies of private doctors in the UK, Ireland and across Europe.

While relativley new to the UK, these tests are known as "Advanced" because they look at how your  body responds to the whole "Wheat Stucture" and not just gluten. Use the link below for full details.

Your body may also respond to other foods which it thinks "look and feel" like gluten. This is known as Cross Reactivity. Cyrex Laboratories also provide a series of further tests to help you identify further aggressors which may cause you problems.

Compact "Home" Gluten Sensitivity Testing

The Coeliac & Gluten Sensitivity profile from Doctor’s Data helps differentiate between Coeliac Disease (CD) and gluten sensitivity by evaluating the serum titers of IgA and IgG  for deamidated gliadin peptide, gliadin, and gluten.

Unlike the Cyrex this test does not individually identify other markers which could be considered reactive, however it does clearly differentiate a postive response to CD or Gluten Sensitivity.

This is an effective test which can be undertaken at home and requires only a small spot of blood from a finger prick test or heel in children.  So while slightly less comprehensive, it offers convenience.

Coeliac Disease Genetic Testing

Genetic predisposition plays a key role in Coeliac Disease (CD) and considerable progress has been made recently in identifying genes that are responsible for CD predisposition. The specific genes are known as HLA-DQ2 and HLA-DQ8.

Approximately 95% of patients with Coeliac Disease express HLA-DQ2, and the remaining patients are usually HLA-DQ8 positive.

We all probably carry a gene or two that predisposes us to an Immune System response, but on its own it doesn’t mean that you will develop a particular Auto Immune Disease.

However, if you have the gene and throw in other environmental triggers then you open the door to mechanisms which can lead to the development of a disease.
